Hiking and Fishing the Clackamas River trail

Had a chance to fish the Clackamas River trail. A very beautiful Hike with tons of places to Fish. The hike is very moderate with some switchbacks. we went in June and the weather was slightly overcast. All we brought were spinners but they worked just fine. I caught three fish and lost two. I recommend this hike to anyone might be hard for young children.

These type spinners worked best.

Fishing the Aumsville Ponds

I decided to fish the Aumsville Ponds in Aumsville Oregon. I started out using worms and caught one sunfish. Switched to a crank bait with a rattle and caught 5 bass. The Park does not allow dogs because a certain type of birds nest there. the trial around the pond is a total of 15 minutes to walk. from what I could tell the bigger bass were in deeper waters. I would cast my lure out as far as I could and retrieve slowly. I don’t think this will be a regular spot for me due to the vegetation near shore making it hard to keep your lure clean while retrieving it. The pond is over fished I counted 13 different people in the two hours I spent there who act like they have never heard of catch and release. I will go back sometime but it probably wont be until after it gets a little cooler outside.

Fishing the south Jetty Newport Oregon.

Fishing is something that helps me unwind, Thats why The Archangel Project helps disabled Veterans and First Responders get outdoors. Anyway we decided to get a away for the weekend and camp near Newport, Oregon. After a great night of playing games around the camp fire the next morning we packed up camp and headed for the South Jetty.

The South Jetty is really beautiful with a lot of spots to fish off the rocks. I decided for my first few casts I would use the cammo gulp worms that you would use for surfperch fishing. The tide was coming in and pushing my bait and weight in circles. I decided to pull in my line and add more weight. I reeled in my line and the first hook had a very small flounder that was hanging onto the cammo worm. I cast about five or six times more catching two more.

At this point I decided since I was set up for Perch fishing I would head to the the surf and do some perch fishing. The beach next to the South Jetty is not Ideal for perch fishing because it is a beach that has ideal conditions for surfing. Since it was a nice day there were a lot of people surfing. I decided to call it quits and go Catch some crabs, but will definitely be back to catch some sea bass.

I will be back when I have a little more time and have Done some more research. but it was a great learning experience and didn’t get skunked. if you ever had the chance to fish the south jetty let me know how you did.

Fishing Clear Lake

I love getting outdoors and seeing new places. As USMC Veteran and someone who currently works in Law enforcement I know how important it is to have an outlet from some of the things I have seen and see on a day to day basis during traumatic situations. Clear Lake in the Mt Hood national forest is beyond words. When we arrived it was the end of may and there was still a little snow on the ground and around 50 degrees. The first thing I noticed about the lake was you could see all the way to the bottom of it no matter where you went on the lake. I didn’t see any signs of fish or anything jumping on the water so I went to store at the boat launch. I asked the guy at the store if they had stocked it recently, he said “they stocked it two weeks ago”. And where I come from that means the lake has been fished out. The store owner said all the stocked trout are probably gone but there are still a lot of cutthroats.

So me and my Fiancé decided we would rent a boat for an hour and check out the lake. Clear Lake does not allow any kind of motors on the water, but they rent row boats at the store by the boat launch for $15 an hour or $30 for the day or charge you $5 to launch your own boat.

After 5 mins of learning how to row again we were off. We were so amazed by the beauty of the lake. we rowed over to where the river meet the lake and decided to throw our line in. I decided to use a night crawler first and see if it brought me any luck. I could see my worm and weight fall all the way to the bottom. I let the weight fall until about 2ft before bottom and decided to troll. After a minute of trolling I had one bite. I could see the fish go near my bait but not take it. and just like that an hour had passed it was time to return my boat. I think fishing would be great in early June. Be on the look out for fishing clear lake part 2 I feel like I have some unfinished business.
